Rhinos are sweet, gentle, and on the road to extinction.
Rhinos are critically endangered. A rhinoceros is killed for its horn - which is made of keratin, the same thing that makes up our hair and nails - every 8 hours. These majestic creatures once populated most of the earth, and have existed here for 50 million years. Heavy poaching today threatens all 5 species of rhinos, and we must act now to save them before it is too late. I support efforts around the world to preserve and protect these magnificent animals, including anti-poaching initiatives, education, veterinarians dedicated to saving the maimed and mutilated, and orphanages dedicated to raising the tiny victims of the poaching war who must face an uncertain future without their mothers. In addition, I am a volunteer docent at a zoo, which allows me to personally educate the public about these amazing beings.
